In a previous blog, I’ve shared the benefits of Vitamin D to improve your body’s resistance against certain diseases, but research has found that Vitamin D can put you at higher risk for depression.

Vitamin D deficiency has also been linked to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as season depression or winter blues. The winter blues is more common among those who live north of the equator and get limited exposure to the sunlight due to long gloomy winters and daylight savings. It is also noteworthy to mention that those with more melanin in their skin (think African-Americans and Hispanics) are at even higher risk of Vitamin D deficiency as melanin impacts your ability to synthesize Vitamin D in the skin. (Source: Harvard University)
